FORMER Flying Fijians fullback Taniela Rawaqa was the toast of the Vuda Giants rugby team after helping his side to down a spirited Crushers outfit 23-16 in the BLK-sponsored Lautoka Franchise semi-final held at Churchill Park yesterday.
The Vuda Green fly half scored 15 points from his boot to help his team secured a spot in the final
Rawaqa was at his usual best as he orchestrated his backline to produce the goods in front of their home fans.
The former Fiji 7s playmaker converted two drop goals and three penalties while his tactical kicking forced their opposition on their backfoot giving his teammates the much needed possession to work on.
The Giants, who finished on second spot from their pool, will have a rematch against the inform City Steelers team in the final.
Steelers, under the guidance of former Fiji 7s rep Tuidriva Bainivalu thumped the Combined Services 26-13 in another semi-final.
The Steelers scored four tries to Services’ one.
The final will be held on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Lautoka rugby fans will have the opportunity to watch their former heroes in action on Saturday.
As part of rugby revival in Lautoka, former players such as Viliame Satala, Ifereimi Rawaqa, Taniela Qauqau and Niko Qoro will feature in the Oldies rugby competition.
