FORMER fisheries minister Kalaveti Ravu has confirmed he will recontest his seat in the next general election to continue serving the people of Lomaiviti.

In a statement issued yesterday, Mr Ravu acknowledged the decision by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, saying it brought finality to a matter that had attracted sustained public attention.

Earlier this year, the Suva Magistrate’s Court cleared Mr Ravu and another of criminal charges instituted by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption in 2024.

He stated from the outset that he had placed his trust in the legal process and his legal representatives, adding that the outcome confirmed that matters must be decided based on evidence and in accordance with the law.

“I have respected that process throughout, and I accept that outcome. I am grateful to now put this behind me,” he said.

Mr Ravu acknowledged the personal toll of the proceedings, stating that the matter had placed strain on his family, work, and reputation, which he said he had carried quietly.

He also recognised that the case had been closely followed by the public, with many forming their own views, and expressed appreciation to those who had continued to engage with him during that period.

He said the matter was now behind him and emphasised his intention to move forward, maintaining that his focus remained on the people of Lomaiviti.

“My duty as a Member of Parliament has not changed. My responsibility is first to the people of Lomaiviti, and that responsibility has not left me, not for a single day.”

He added that he would continue to carry out his role with discipline, stability, and respect for proper processes, noting that public confidence is built over time and tested during difficult periods.

After careful consideration, Mr Ravu said he would stand again in the upcoming general election.

“There is still work to be done, and I will see it through.”
