Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna’s driving passion was education for all people.

Turaga Na Roko Tui Bau Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua highlighted this during the soft launch of Ratu Sukuna Day celebration in Suva yesterday.

He said Ratu Sukuna firmly believed that empowering everyone with the life-changing tools of learning and knowledge was the key to Fiji’s progress.

“Using wise teachings, he instilled the principle that we must utilise our talents to uplift the entire community around us,” Ratu Timoci said.

“His famous words beautifully capture this unifying vision: If other communities are poor, we too remain poor. If they prosper, we also will prosper.

“Ratu Sukuna understood that we are all bound together — our fates intertwined. We can only move upward by joining hands and supporting one another across all communities.”

He said during this year’s Ratu Sukuna Day celebration, Fiji will celebrate a towering figure who helped shape modern Fiji into a unified, resilient and progressive nation.

“His incredible legacy reminds us that we are one people with shared hopes and dreams.

“By caring for each other, prioritising education, and collaborating with courage and wisdom, we can keep building a prosperous future for every Fijian family.

“Ratu Sukuna’s shining example of leadership through understanding and inclusion continues to light our path forward, even decades later.

“Let us rededicate ourselves to carrying on his mission of unity, nation-building and comprehensive progress for our dearly beloved country.”

Ratu Sukuna Day will be celebrated at Suva’s Albert Park from May 29 to 31.
