The Tui Nayau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, has urged greater inclusion of young people and women in decision-making at village and provincial levels.

He said discussions on development and governance had been dominated by men for too long.

“Traditionally, leadership has been male-oriented, but involving women enhances decision-making,” he said.

“Youth and mothers’ groups must be represented in provincial forums.”

Ratu Tevita said women and youth brought new perspectives to problem-solving.

“They bring challenges and solutions.

“Their participation helps balance traditional structures and encourages more progressive thinking.”

He pointed to the Yatu Lau Company’s progress as an example of shared success.

“The new arcade opening next month is encouraging. It shows we can succeed in business, especially on the mainland.

“It’s a beacon of light for the province.”

Ratu Tevita said empowering women and youth would strengthen both families and communities.

“When women and young people take ownership of development, it uplifts the whole vanua.

“They are the next generation of leaders, and their voices must be heard.”
