RATU Sukuna Memorial School took out the first gold medal of day two of the Fiji Finals.

RSMS bagged the gold medal in the intermediate girls discus throw with another powerful showing by Loata Lewageena.

Lewageena threw to a whopping 46.02m beating the old record of 42.54m set last year by Swami Vivekananda College student Brienna Rabakena.

She came into the Fiji Finals with the best throw of 42.55m in the Suva Zone 1 which had already surpassed the Games record.

The Nadroga lass shared that she had to battle the feeling of self doubt in order to break the record yesterday.

“Today (yesterday) was a very hard day for me because of the things that were going through my mind,” she said.

She credited her belief in God plus the support of her coaches and family in helping her overcome this.

“I thank God for helping me get through today mentally. I focused on my own technique because most times, I’m focused on other athletes but today (yesterday) I managed to just focus on myself and own technique,” she added.

She said she was overwhelmed when the officials indicated that she had set a new record. While she takes home her second gold medal of 2025, Maryann Macedru and Sinairi Erasito of St Joseph’s Secondary School had to settle for silver and bronze respectively.

Macedru threw a best of 38.66m while Erasito recorded 37.24m.
