RATU Filimoni Memorial School dominated the Ba Primary Schools Athletics Zone Meet, claiming both the boys and girls titles after two days of competition at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

In the girl’s division, Ratu Filimoni bagged 13 gold, six silver and five bronze medals, while their boys’ team added seven gold, four silver and six bronze, sealing overall victory.

Votua Catholic School finished second in the overall standings, while St Teresa Primary School settled for third place.

The two-day meet featured 31 schools and close to 1,000 athletes competing for a place in the Ba team for the upcoming Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships in Suva.

Meet coordinator Meli Tuilevu said the event was a success and praised the commitment of all schools involved.

“It was a successful zone.

“We managed to complete all events on time,” Tuilevu said. “We’re impressed with the dedication from teachers and students throughout the competition.”

Tuilevu said Ba aims to send a strong contingent to Suva this year.

“Last year, our preparation was affected by bad weather, but this year’s performances were outstanding,” he said. “We have incredible athletes, and we’ll only take the best to the nationals.”

The final Ba team is expected to be announced soon.
