Ratu fights illness to get ready

BOXER Waisale Ratu has fought all odds to fully recover from a long illness to return into the boxing ring.

Ratu, 39, will be fighting Sebastian Singh (pictured) in the 64kg superlight weight category in the Northern Boxing Rumble.

He battled an illness for two years but according to him he is ready to box.

He said he had given his life into the hands of the Almighty.

“Everybody wants to win the fight and so do I. This fight means a lot for me. I will be making a comeback after two years,” he said.

“I won’t reveal what was the sickness since only God knows what happened. I am on the right track now and have a lot of faith in my God.

“The illness got me for the two years before I recovered eight months ago. I am fit now and ready for the challenge.”

Ratu said he was looking for the opportunity to get back into the sport and trainer Gyan Singh negotiated the fight with his son.

“I am feeling young again after my recovery and then my prayers were answered when Gyan Singh called me to fight.

“I think the illness which I went through will not affect my boxing career because God has plans for me. The event will be staged at Subrail Park in Labasa on December 19.”
