Ratu Epeli reminds U20 players of World Cup challenge

THE Vodafone Fiji under-20 football team presented their itatau to president Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at Government House in Suva yesterday.

While accepting the teams itatau Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said the players should be ready for all the challenges in the coming days.

“You are here to pledge to the president and the people of Fiji that you are ready to undertake the task to represent Fiji with honour. You are the chosen lot of young men and are on the verge of international representation,” he said.

Ratu Epeli reminded players the importance of such event giving examples of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Robin van Persie.

“Playing other teams won’t be easy for you. You are the budding footballers. There will be so many scouts looking at your performance in the tournament.

“You should enjoy in whatever things you do. You are going there with the blessing of the people of Fiji and those who are staying overseas,” he said.

The team departs for Australia today to play friendly matches against Mexico and Columbia before heading to New Zealand for the World Cup.

Fiji faces Germany in their opening game on June 1.
