THE Rooster Chicken Grassroots Fiji 7s, scheduled for today and Friday at the HFC Bank Stadium, has received a major boost with the arrival of internationally renowned rugby referee Rasta Rasivhenge, who will serve as the tournament’s ambassador of the game.
Widely respected on the global rugby stage, Rasivhenge’s presence adds international prestige to the grassroots tournament and underlines the importance of fair play, discipline and respect for match officials.
Tournament organisers, Fiji Sports Council Acting CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure says his role as ambassador is aimed at inspiring players, coaches and supporters, while reinforcing the core values of rugby at community level.
“Beyond the action on the field, the Rooster Chicken Grassroots Fiji 7s will also provide a range of off-field services for the public, making the two-day event more than just a sporting spectacle,” said Vakalalabure.
“Free medical check-ups will be available throughout the tournament, reflecting the organisers’ commitment to health and wellbeing within the rugby community.
“Officials from the National Employment Centre (NEC) will also be on site to engage with individuals seeking employment opportunities or career guidance, while Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) representatives will be available to assist those interested in learning more about their services and benefits.”
The organisers have made the event accessible to families and fans, with a flat admission fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children, while entry is free for children under the age of 12.
With top-class grassroots rugby, international influence through Rasivhenge’s involvement, and valuable community services available, the Rooster Chicken Grassroots Fiji 7s promises to be a celebration of rugby and community spirit as fans converge on the HFC Bank Stadium for two days of exciting sevens action.
