The Lautoka City Voluntary Local Review (VLR) 2025 was officially launched on Friday marking the city’s commitment to global sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Lautoka Board of Special Administrators chairperson, Taitusi Rasoki said the VLR 2025 represents a significant milestone in the city’s journey towards sustainable development.

“It shows our commitment to the global sustainable development goals (SDGs),” he said.

The VLR, he said, reflects the hard work and dedication of our council staff, the insights of community leaders.

Mr Rasoki emphasised the strategic importance of the document, saying this review connects our local efforts with national priorities and international commitments, positioning Lautoka as a leader in sustainable urban development in Fiji.

“I am particularly proud of how this review process has strengthened partnerships within our community.

“The engagement of local business, civil society organisations and residents has been crucial in shaping our understanding of road workers needs and VLR is not just a snapshot of where we are, it’s a roadmap for where we want to go.

“It will guide our decision making, help us allocate resources more effectively and ensure that our development efforts leave no one behind for the people of Lautoka.”

Mr Rasoki acknowledged that citizen-involvement in the process has been invaluable and highlighted the importance of continued engagement.

Lautoka City Council’s head of services Shalend Singh said the project aimed to empower cities to build more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities by following the SDGs.

Mr Singh stressed that the VLR is a city-wide status report and not just a council document.
