The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry says repair works at the Rarawai Mill in Ba are progressing faster than expected, raising hopes that operations could resume even earlier than the revised target of 10 December.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry yesterday toured the mill to inspect ongoing repair efforts.
The Government, after consultations with the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC), had initially projected that crushing operations would restart in the first week of December, before adjusting the date to 10 December following updated technical assessments.
The Ministry confirmed that the mill has now been fully energised, and a full test run is scheduled for Monday.
The Minister noted that some teething issues are anticipated once the mill restarts, given that the plant has been idle for almost two months. However, he said teams on the ground are prepared to address any early operational challenges.
