The Rakiraki Subdivisional Hospital will soon have a new 18-berth mortuary, following a ground-breaking ceremony officiated by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Atonio Lalabalavu.

Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa said the project reflects strong partnership between the Ministry and the Ra Chamber of Commerce, which has led the fundraising drive since last year.

The Chamber had launched a $200,000 campaign to construct the facility, including an 18-body freezer unit and a purpose-built structure.

The hospital provided the land.

$150,000 gas been allocated for construction and $50,000 for the freezer unit.

Ravunawa said the project marks a significant boost to essential health infrastructure for Ra Province and thanked all partners and donors for their support.

The Rakiraki hospital currently has a two berth mortuary. When the mortuary is full, Rakiraki residents have to take bodies to either Ba or Lautoka.
