The Raiwai volleyball team faces a tough task in defending the Hot Bread Kitchen Easter Volleyball Championship at the Vodafone Arena in Suva this weekend.
Association president Jim Rosse said losing out two titles last year triggered them to step up with their performance.
Rosse said with Suva now dominating, they needed to work extra hard if they wanted to defend the Easter title. “As usual we have been preparing well,” he said.
“We know that we will go through a tough battle in the pool games. But the onus is on the players to come out of their comfort zone and play hard if we want to retain the title.
“We have lost two titles, which is the Vanua and the Vulaca championship and we don’t want to lose this one too.
“All teams are well prepared, but we are hoping for the best. “Even though we don’t have two of our main players from the Police team, Tony and Mosese, we have faith in our young side.”
He added they hoped to get their six teams in to the semi-finals of the different categories. “Our development squad, team Green, consists of young players we are developing to one day represent Raiwai in the senior grade.”
