Lutu, Naitasiri native Josaia Wini Raisuqe is back with the national team as he trials for a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games squad.

Raisuqe, who currently plays rugby in France, arrived in the country late last week with his sights set on the prestigious event. Raisuqe shared insights into his preparation and the team’s progress.

Commenting on the Fiji 7s team’s preparation, Raisuqe said, “I just want to catch up with the players and my fitness levels to be on the same level as them. Preparations has been good, and the camp is OK.

“There are a lot of good players here, but only 13 will be selected to represent Fiji in the Olympics in Paris,” he added.

“The players are giving their best, but we haven’t reached the level we wanted to reach.

“The preparation we are doing now is different from other preparations. We have the gold medal we just need to go and defend it,” he added.

Returning to 7s rugby has been a significant adjustment for Raisuqe, who is committed to reaching peak performance.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve tried out 7s rugby again. I’m working hard to reach the level that these boys have been,” he explained.

Raisuqe’s experience and determination will be vital. With his sights set on contributing to Fiji’s quest for another gold medal, his journey back into the 7s arena is one to watch.

Meanwhile, the Fijian 7s team wrapped up their friendlies with Australia winning both matches 19-5 and 22-12 at Churchill Park yesterday.
