Rainfall to intensify from Tuesday with approach of TD03F

Tropical Disturbance TD03F remains slow moving over open waters between the Solomon Islands and the far north of Vanuatu, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service.

The system is expected to track southeastward between Fiji and Vanuatu over the next few days and is forecast to enter Fiji waters on Tuesday.

Fiji Met states in a bulletin at 1pm today. TD03F will exit the group through the Lau Group by Wednesday, December 17.

An associated active trough of low pressure continues to affect the country, bringing overcast conditions and occasional rain.

Authorities warn that persistent heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, particularly as soils across many areas are already saturated from ongoing rainfall.

Rainfall is expected to increase in frequency from Tuesday as TD03F approaches the Fiji group from the west, with wet conditions likely to spread across the rest of the country by Wednesday.

While TD03F currently has a low potential of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next five days, its rainbands are already having a significant impact.

Members of the public are advised to remain alert, avoid flooded crossings, and monitor official weather updates.
