Rain to persist across Fiji as trough forecasted to move away

Listen to this article:

A trough of low pressure continues to affect the western and eastern parts of the Fiji group, bringing cloudy conditions and showers across large parts of the country.

Weather officials say the trough is expected to gradually move westward away from Fiji later today.

Forecast to midnight tonight indicates cloudy periods with some showers over western and eastern Viti Levu, including Nadi–Lautoka–Ba, Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra–Rakiraki, Cakaudrove and southern Bua.

Similar conditions are expected over the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Authorities warn that localised heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Moderate northeasterly winds, fresh at times, are expected, with moderate to rough seas.
