The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has warned that a trough of low pressure lingering over the country will continue to bring showers — with the risk of heavy downpours — to several divisions today and into Sunday.
In its 5.30am bulletin issued today, forecasters said the system, combined with a prevailing southerly to northeast wind flow, is driving unstable conditions particularly over eastern and central parts of the country.
Occasional showers and isolated heavy falls are expected from the Coral Coast to Navua, the Greater Suva–Nausori–Tailevu corridor, Ra–Naitasiri and Serua–Namosi, as well as the Southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces. The Lau and Lomaiviti groups, along with Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, are also forecast to experience wet weather.
Elsewhere across the Fiji group, conditions are expected to remain mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers.
The bulletin warned that isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls “may lead to flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas,” and urged communities to remain alert.
The outlook for Sunday mirrors today’s forecast, with continued showers and the potential for heavy downpours in the same areas.
