Marley Raikiwasa, a talented athlete with Fijian heritage, has made waves in the world of athletics.
Originally from South Australia, with maternal links to Fiji, she secured the Bronze medal in the Discus Throw event at the 2024 World Athletics Under-20 Championship in Lima, Peru, with a remarkable throw of 56.25 metres yesterday.
As a member of the Australian athletics team, this 19-year-old has added another medal to Australia’s tally.
Raikiwasa is no stranger to success at the World Athletics U20 Championships.
In 2022, she reached the final of the discus and finished ninth. Returning in 2024, she is competing in both discus and shot put, holding the Australian Under 20 record in shot put with a throw of 16.84m.
Marley’s performances, while only aged 16, over the summer season were spectacular, so consistent initially at 48 metres before Christmas, then regularly over 50 metres in the new year.
She also raised her PB from 50.79m to 52.59m.
At the trials and Australian U20 Championships she placed second and was later named in the Australian team for the World U20 Championships in Cali.
Meanwhile, China took the Gold and Silver medals respectively by Bingyang Han and Jingru Huang.
The championship, which started on Tuesday, will concludes on Sunday.
