Natasha Rahiman may only be 16 but she writes and sings like someone beyond her years.
The 2023 Domo Vou Talei original song competition finalist is one of 10 vying for the $5000 grand final prize – courtesy of Westpac. Rahiman and her fellow participants could also win $3000 in the People’s Choice Award – courtesy of The Fiji Times and $1000 Best Performance Award – courtesy of Kaila!
The Fiji Times caught up with her while she was recording her entry in the song contest – Not Me.
“It’s a song about me trying to find my old self,” Rahiman explained.
The Suva Muslim College Year 11 student said her interest in composing began in primary school.
Domo Vou Talei is the brainchild of the Australian High Commission. The competition was established last year.
The 10 finalists are being vocally trained by award-winning music superstar Sunia Soko Loga and produced by legendary producers – Phil Dakei and Dave ‘Mr Grin’ Lavaki. Voting in the People’s Choice Award is scheduled to be held from September 30 to October 6.
