Rahil reigns in snooker battle

FIJI’S No.1 snooker player Rahil Prasad was on top of his game in the Pillay Garments National Champion of Champions tournament played in Suva over the weekend.

Prasad defeated Praneel Singh in an exciting final on Sunday, winning 5-2.

“It was a very thrilling final for me to beat Praneel in the final,” he said.

“At one stage I was a frame down since I did not have a good start in the match. However, I went on to display some good exceptional potting skills and class to win the tournament.

“I am happy to be the youngest champion in Fiji.”

The 22-year-old had previously won the several B Grade titles, including a five in a row.

He featured in Fiji Open final in 2013 losing out to Fiji champion Jiten Prasad.

In 2014 he lost to the great Suman Lal in the semi-final of the Fiji Open.

“The competition was a tough one for me since the match against Viliame Umu was the match of the tournament when I was 3-1 down, but managed to make a comeback and win 4-3,” he said.

“In the semi-final against Krishneel Naicker it was bit controversial with some outside negative comments, but I took it as a challenge and managed to beat him 4-2.”

Prasad pocketed $400 for winning the competition.
