PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has assured the people of Fiji that he will continue to act independently in the performance of his duties despite his traditional ties to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Tui Cakau.

The assurance follows social media comments by former journalist Charlie Charters raising concerns about traditional and familial connections between the President, the Prime Minister, and other key public officials.

Mr Rabuka, who hails from Cakaudrove, said his actions as Prime Minister would remain guided solely by the Constitution and the law.

“I will act independently as Prime Minister and will not be influenced by social media or any exchanges in the press,” he said.

“I will be governed by the law, the Constitution, and the acts governing our institutions.”
