A resolution was passed today at the Ra Provincial Council meeting to either amend or remove the 2013 Constitution.

The resolution comes in the wake of Government seeking an opinion from the Supreme Court on a legal interpretation of parts of the Constitution.

While opening the Ra Provincial Council meeting this morning, Assistant Minister for Justice, Ratu Josaia Niudamu said last weeks Great Council of Chiefs meetingĀ  was significant.

“There was a united call to revisit our Constitution, the 2013 Constitution,” he said.

“Your collective submission has now been placed before the Supreme Court, requesting that a legal process be used to review and amend it.”

Ratu Niudamu said this process “involves the people.”

“It is not determined solely by a single person, as we have seen in the governance of our nation over the past 16 years.”
