QVS rugby team impress in Japan

The Queen Victoria School (QVS) under rugby team leaves Saga Technical High School in the Saga Prefecture today (Fiji time) for the Fukuoka Prefecture to compete in the Sanix World Youth tournament in Japan.

The Saga Prefecture is in the northwest part of the island of Kyushu.

And the Matavatucou boys had been good Fijian ambassadors since leaving Fiji while participating in a cultural exchange program at the school.

“They are in Saga Prefecture for rugby exchange between Saga Technical High School. They have been staying at our site (Saga Prefecture) for three days and having not only sports, but also cultural exchange to build friendship between Saga Pref and Fiji,” their media liaison officer, Ejima Hirosi said.

“I am quite impressed how Fijian students behave themselves as well as their great performance in rugby. I love how they respect others and their positive attitude to learn new culture.

“We had a friendly match yesterday against Saga Technical High School.

“The score was QVS 38 – 25 Saga Tech High. Japanese players were quite impressed to see Fijians’ speed, strength and of course their brave spirit of rugby. This sports exchange surely develops our technique and spirit of rugby,” he said.

QVS, representing Fiji, will play their first pool game against Osaka Toin High School on Friday.

Other teams are from Russia, New Zealand, South Africa and other parts of the world.
