The bitter defeat to reigning champions Ra High School in last year’s Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League (FSSRL) quarter-finals still lingers with the Queen Victoria School U19 team.
Captain Josaih Damudamu revealed that avenging this loss has been a constant source of motivation for the team as they prepare for the 2026 FSSRL season, with the boys training intensely to reach their goal.
“We lost to eventual winners Ra High last year, and given the competition format, we are on course to face them again in the quarter-finals,” he said.
“It’s crucial for us to settle the score and achieve our aim of winning the title.”
With the addition of two new teams and the return of two schools, the QVS team acknowledges that this year’s competition will be formidable.
However, this will not deter them from their pursuit of the prestigious title.
“We won’t underestimate any team, nor will we undervalue our own abilities. We intend to give our all in every match we play,” Damudamu stated.
Last year’s losing semi-finalists, Ratu Kadavulevu School, known as the giants of high school rugby, are determined to go all the way this year and have been preparing rigorously for the competition.
“Our preparations have been going well, and our goal is straightforward – to win the FSSRL U19 trophy this year,” said Sairusi Vela, captain of the RKS U19 team.
“We are ready for our first game at the Saint Marcellin grounds. We will not back down and will fight until the final whistle.”
