Vacancies

I believe there are many working opportunities here at home for the skilled and unskilled workers if one reads the daily on Saturdays.

Pages of situations vacant fill the employment section, but to reason that there are many unemployed individuals and there are no jobs available, I believe many are just picky on the advertised vacancies.

Maybe companies could also include offered starting rates which can encourage unemployed individuals to apply.

Maths concern

Recent revelations about low achievements of our schoolchildren in mathematics is alarming.

This calls for much deeper thought and action.

Why and how is this happening?

Is the mathematics syllabus too tough or is marking stringent?

What role does the Ministry of Education and teachers have in supporting improved results?

What role do parents and guardians have?

Were there any patterns in results based on different geographical areas of schools and students?

Perhaps we need to seek feedback from the students themselves as they sat for examinations.

All in all, this is a concern which deserves much though and a concerted effort by all concerned.

Police bicycles

I laughed when I saw your cartoon on page 9 (FT4/4) “bera tale na police car.

Anyway, what ever happened to the bicycles that were donated to the police force?

Can someone please tell us what has happened to them?

And what about the police motor bikes, if the police vehicle are being used to transport officers to a crime scene, can the bikes be used?

Slow pace

After patiently passing cars, at the head of the long queue was a new Prius travelling at 30 kmph.

I couldn’t figure out why someone drives at such a slow pace in the early morning traffic.
