THE quality of road maintenance works is being called into question with how a number of newly upgraded roads have crumbled under consistent flooding and bad weather.
Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau raised the issue of concern of Government over the standard of road maintenance works being delivered by some private contractors.
“The general standard of work in terms of maintaining these roads is an ongoing issue,” said Ro Filipe.
“We are having discussions with the new PS (Paula Baleilevuka) who is a roads engineer, and we are working with FRA to address the standard of delivery of contracted road services.
“And whether these are being monitored efficiently and effectively or what standards do they use.”
He added that a monitoring unit would be set up under the revived Public Works Department.
