Qiliho: Regional cooperation continued during COVID pandemic

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, regional cooperation continued between members of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police members, says PICP chairperson Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.

While addressing the 21-members of the PICP in Nadi today, he said he was grateful for their Pacific partners’ support in their effort to ensure safety and security of their people.

“As PICP chair, I witnessed how during the height of the pandemic, our collective efforts in partnership, has seen us utilising existing internal mechanisms to ensure business continuity,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

“We may have been kept apart by our Pacific ocean but we remained connected, remained committed, remained loyal to our oath to serve and protect.

“We have led officers under our command through the unknown, through the unpredictable and through unfamiliar policing territories, by listening and learning from each other, a true essence of our Pacific way.

“The great aspect of being part of our Pacific family, is that our PICP values of respect, fairness, trust, honesty, accountability and accepting and valuing diversity is inherit to us all as Pacific islanders.”

The 49th Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police meeting was opened by Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing Inia Seruiratu in Nadi today.
