“Our job is to do the work for the people of Fiji,” says Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.

“Security and stability for the people of Fiji will result in prosperity when we provide the conducive environment so we need to get things right,” he adds.

Brig-Gen Qiliho made the comment during a recent talanoa session with officers of and above the rank of Acting Inspector of Police.

Officers from the Central, Southern and Eastern divisions met the Commissioner of Police and senior command at the Fiji Police Academy, where they were able to openly discuss issues from the middle to senior management levels.

The Commissioner said the senior command at the headquarters level were there to support officers on the front line administratively and logistically through policies and directives.

With more than 30 Police Stations and 70 community posts around Fiji, Brig-Gen Qiliho said he relied on middle managers to effectively lead those under their command because they were the first point of contact for members of the public.

He told the officers that ranks come with more responsibilities and he called on middle managers to be firm and make tough decisions when needed.
