Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Simon Raiwalui said the team needs to “improve on everything” despite the team’s 36-20 win over Tonga in the Punjas Pacific Battle in Lautoka yesterday.

Raiwalui said although they got off to a good start, there were a few things that they needed to work on before they face Samoa next week.

“It was a tough match, and we got off to a good start.

“Tonga came back hard in the second part of the first half and it was tough throughout,” he said.

Raiwalui said the boys were reminded to cut down on their mistakes against a physical ‘Ikale Tahi at the break.

“We wanted to emphasise more in our carry and be more dominant to get quicker balls in order to create some good scoring opportunities.

“We have to work on our fitness, our set-piece play, our ruck and also on our carry.”

The former Flying Fijians skipper added Josua Tuisova stood out in the midfield alongside current captain Waisea Nayacalevu.

“Josh (Tuisova) got us into the game and Semi came on in the second spell and improved a lot of things.

“We have got a good squad, and it is going to be hotly contested in some of the positions.”

He said the first group of players in the extended Flying Fijians squad got them a win as all eight players on the bench got to spend some minutes on the field.
