In a display of talent and determination, Adi Sera Faith, representing Suva One, claimed the gold medal in the U13 girls high jump at the recent athletics meet.

The year 8 student from Holy Trinity School captivated the audience with her remarkable jump, clearing a distance of 1.37 metres.

The competition was fierce, with Akeneta Tuwai of Nadi securing the second-place spot by reaching a height of 1.30m.

Meanwhile, Mareta Fonmoa of Suva Two clinched the bronze with a commendable jump of 1.25m. The podium finishers showcased their athletic prowess, but it was Faith’s soaring leap that stole the spotlight.

Reflecting on her victory, Faith admitted to feeling intimidated initially, particularly by a competitor from Nadroga/Navosa.

“At first, I was intimidated by other jumpers, especially the girl from Nadroga/Navosa. I was scared, but my teammates reminded me not to be scared and just do my best,” she shared.

Overcoming her fears, Faith focused on delivering her optimal performance.

“I was not expecting to win gold,” Faith added, her humility shining through despite the impressive feat.

Her unexpected triumph resonated with the spirit of sports, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of competition.

Hailing from Narewa, Nadi, the lanky young athlete is poised to continue her athletics career into the next chapter of her education.

Faith has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her secondary school education at MGM, ensuring that her passion for athletics will have a platform to flourish in the coming years.

As Faith basks in the glory of her gold medal, her journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring young athletes, showcasing the importance of perseverance, team support, and the ability to overcome initial challenges.
