The founding director of the Punjas Group, Kanti Lal Punja, will be laid to rest today in Lautoka, following his passing on April 5, 2026, in Auckland, New Zealand.
Widely regarded as a towering figure in Fiji’s business community, Mr Punja’s death marks a significant loss not only for his family and company, but also for the many communities that benefitted from his generosity.
Under his leadership, the Punjas Group grew into a major force in both commerce and community service, supporting healthcare initiatives, hospital refurbishments, critical medical treatments, and ongoing food assistance programs.
The company also played a vital role in disaster response, consistently delivering relief to affected communities.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Mr Punja was known for his compassion and humility.
He often extended help without recognition, assisting families in need, the elderly, and those facing hardship.
A disciplined individual, he practised yoga daily and lived by strong spiritual values.
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Fiji and the 50th Anniversary of Independence Presidential Medal.
His legacy of service, integrity, and generosity will continue to inspire future generations.
