Public invited to make submissions on Constitution Bill

Listen to this article:

The public has been given another opportunity to have its say on the proposed constitutional changes, with Parliament’s Special Committee calling for further written submissions on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill No. 32 of 2026.

The call follows Parliament’s approval on November 3 of an extension to the committee’s review period, allowing it to continue examining the controversial Bill and submit its report by November 30.

The committee, chaired by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, is inviting individuals, organisations, institutions and groups to submit their views on the proposed amendments.

Written submissions must clearly identify the individual or organisation making the submission and provide comments on the relevant provisions of the Bill.

Submitters have also been asked to confine their submissions strictly to the contents of the Bill and organise their recommendations under three headings.

These include identifying the relevant chapter or clauses and outlining concerns, recommending specific amendments, deletions or inclusions, and providing reasons and justification for the proposed changes.

The committee says the prescribed format will assist it in effectively reviewing and assessing the submissions.

The deadline for submissions is 4pm on Saturday, November 14, 2026.

The committee was initially required to table its report during the November sitting of Parliament, but the extension approved on November 3 gives it until the end of the month to complete its review.
