Fijians will have the opportunity to pay their final respects as the funeral cortege of the late former President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau passes through Suva during next week’s State Funeral.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed that preparations are progressing well, with strong coordination between Government, the vanua and supporting agencies.

On Thursday, April 16, the cortege will depart Oceania Hospitals at 6:00am under escort by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, travelling through key streets including Waimanu Road, Victoria Parade and Queen Elizabeth Drive before arriving at State House.

“Members of the public are encouraged to stand along the route and pay their respects,” he said.

Ratu Epeli will lie in state at State House from 8:30am to 8:00pm, with controlled public access.

The State Funeral will be held at Albert Park on Friday, April 17 at 8:30am, followed by a final procession through Suva to Bau Landing.

From there, the casket will be taken to Bau Island for traditional ceremonies and burial.

“We ask all Fijians to continue observing protocols and to participate with respect and unity,” said Mr Rabuka.
