All water under the bridge is how Education Ministry permanent secretary Selina Kuruleca describes the turbulent start to her tenure in the civil service. In an interview,
Ms Kuruleca said she had settled in her post and was committed to helping Education Minister Aseri Radrodro to enhance the quality of education in the country.
“It’s been great, the role is a good role. I’m enjoying it,” she said.
“I am supported by very good teams here at the ministry. So, the job has been good. We’ve looked at what we’ve done well, what we have not done so well. We’re going into the new year just resetting, refocusing on what we need to do different, to ensure that our children are more successful.
“A lot of work to be done. But I’m very pleased that we are supported by very good teams here. We have a very good working relationship with the minister and the Assistant Minister for Education.
“We have good colleagues throughout the PS forum with fellow permanent secretaries, so it’s been good. It’s different from private sector, but it’s been good. I have so far, no complaints.”
She added that she shared a good working relationship with Mr Radrodro.
“We’ve been working well together. I quote what he had said in the papers back then, it’s water under the bridge. It’s a working relationship. We obviously have a much, much bigger job than some of the other ministries.
“So being able to have that working relationship is critical. He knows where he wants to go. My role as a civil servant is to support that and facilitate it within the processes that we have. And we’ve been getting along, it’s been good.”
