Prosecution objects to bail

Sailosi Baleisuva Mara’s thoughts of spending New Year’s Day with his four children was ruled out after the prosecutor in his case objected to bail saying the case was of public interest and a life has been lost.

The 37-year-old, who is alleged to have caused the death of a 22-year-old man last Sunday made his first appearance at the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday from remand.

Mr Mara, a taxidriver, appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death and another count of failing to comply with requirement after an accident.

The first phase of disclosures was served to him in court by police prosecutor Sergeant Jiten Singh who said he was objecting to bail because the accused had a pending assault case in another court.

Magistrate Ratakele will deliver his bail ruling on January 4, 2016. The accused has been remanded in custody.
