Prosecution yesterday raised concerns over certain commentary made by Suva lawyer Tanya Waqanika about her criminal charge in the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

FICAC senior prosecutor Joseph Work raised the issue before Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull for it to be noted on the court record.

Ms Bull is presiding over Ms Waqanika’s application to permanently stay her lower court proceedings.

Ms Waqanika is charged with publicly indicating opposition to a political party under the Political Parties Act.

Meanwhile, defence lawyer Barbara Malimali told the court that the central issue in their application concerns the appointment of Acting FICAC Commissioner Lavi Rokoika.

According to court documents, Ms Waqanika is seeking a declaration that Ms Rokoika’s appointment was illegal, null, and void.

The case is adjourned to March 20 for hearing.
