PUBLIC consultations will soon begin on the proposed multi-million dollar Waste to Energy power plant at Vuda Point in Lautoka.
Headed by The Next Generation Fiji Holdings Pte Ltd, the government-backed project is anticipated to convert waste sourced from landfills across Fiji into renewable energy.
TNG investor and Australian businessman Ian Malouf said the project would benefit the nation as a whole.
“This is a power plant that turns waste into biofuel and we are looking at long term solution to Fiji’s waste management issue,” said Mr Malouf.
“We had started the groundwork on this project in July last year and since then we’ve working towards this point where we get feedback from members of the community. I think this is a very important stage where we not only hear what the public has to say but also give more information about the power plant and its purpose. We are working closely with the government and we are pleased that the endorsement came through a Cabinet paper.”
Mr Malouf said consultations would begin on January 15 in Lautoka.
“We encouraged the public to come out in numbers to not only learn about what we are trying to do but also get feedback from them.
“We are a joint venture made up of local and international companies and we are encouraging other local companies to join us. I think it’s important that we have local companies also involved in this project because it will benefit the Fijian people.”
Mr Malouf added that five per cent of the profit made would go towards charity.\
