PARENTS around the Kalabu area who face difficulties in sending their children to kindergarten school are counting their lucky stars after a groundbreaking ceremony for an ECE centre was held at the Kalabu Primary School yesterday.

Funded by the Japanese government, the centre will provide proper education as kindergarten students around Kalabu are currently being taught by volunteers.

“This is a big help, one that we have been longing for,” clan leader Paula Rawiriwiri said.

“We are happy knowing that our children are starting to get a proper education centre.

“As parents, we always want the best for our children especially when it comes to something that will determine their future.”

Headteacher Taina Mocevinaka echoed similar sentiments saying that this is the first education centre for the young ones that she normally supervises.

“We have some volunteers that normally teach kindergarten students around the Kalabu area and it is always my duty to supervise them like checking on their progress and the work being covered,” she said.

“With this to be in place, it will be very convenient for me in monitoring the progress of each student.

“This is a milestone achievement for the school and the people of Kalabu as well thanks to the Japanese government and the ministry of education.”

The new learning building is scheduled to be completed by the end of this term.
