Prop kicks opponent in the head

A club rugby prop in Argentina has reportedly been banned for 99 years after kicking a defenceless opponent in the head.

Video of the attack emerged from a weekend match between Pucara and San Albano in the Torneo de la URBA — a rugby union competition held in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.

Pucara prop Cipriano Martinez can be seen kicking the head of opposition lock Juan Masi who was trying to get himself off the ground at the fringe of a ruck.

Martinez was immediately sent off.

Reports in Argentina claim he has been banned from rugby for 99 years.

The Pucara club released a statement following the match, saying: “Pucara club denounces the unsporting conduct displayed during the match against San Albano.

“We wish to extend our sincere apologies to the injured player, the club and to the rugby world in general. Pucara Club will be taking disciplinary measures.”
