The South Pacific Boxing Promotion’s Rumble in Labasa promises to revive the sport of boxing in the Northern Division after 10 long years.
The event was officially launched at the LICI office in Suva yesterday with a date set for August 10 at Subrail Park in Labasa.
Promoter Fredy Chand gave a breakdown of the event with 11 professional and six exhibition bouts on the card.
Boxing Commission of Fiji chairman Adi Narayan sanctioned all the title fights.
“This is revival boxing in Labasa because we are taking boxing there after eight, nine to 10 years. Winston Hill will be the main event and main supporting bout will Ubayd Haider. We’ve got Shafir Maqbool all the way from Australia, flying in to fight Sakaraia Talatu in the heavyweight contest so we are on par in terms of reviving the heavyweight division.
“We hope the public can come out in numbers and support reviving boxing in Labasa,” promoter Chand stated.
Winston Hill will take on ni-Vanuatu’s amateur champion Roy Ser in the main event while Ubayd Haider will face Saimoni Ratu for the Lightweight title.
Masing Warawara also from Vanuatu will take the ring against Frederick Chand in the supporting bout.
Two title fights are scheduled before that with Shelvin Chand facing Krishnil Chand in the 51kg while Ritesh Gounder take on Shamal Ram Anuj from Australia for another vacant belt.
Winton Hill’s brother Jonathan will also be in action in just his second professional fight and he is up against Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu.
