Prominent Fijian resort Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji in Sigatoka has appointed a new executive chef.
The role has been given to Malaysian born Arnold Alphonosus who has vast experience in the tourism industry over a span of more than 20 years.
According to the resort, Mr Alphonsus worked with the Shangri-La organisation for 22 years beginning in Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa in Singapore before moving to Shangri-La Kota Resort in Kinabalu, Malaysia.
After his stint in Malaysia, the professional chef moved to Yanuca Island in 2014 where he took up the role as executive sous chef. He said he was ready to take on the new role.
“I am so fortunate to have been appointed in this position and I am ready to take on the new challenge,” he said.
The resort revealed that under Mr Alphonso’s leadership, a group of young chefs took home coveted prizes at the 2022 FMF Salon Culinaire.
“I can proudly say that they are doing an amazing job and I am so happy and proud to have a young and brilliant team.”
“Despite the short notice, the team was able to deliver, and they delivered beyond expectations,” he said.
As a testament to his leadership, Mr Alphonsus said he was proud to have been able to lead a young group of chefs win medals at the 2022 2022 FMF Salon Culinaire where chefs from the across the country battle it out for the coveted title of being the best in the country.
“I can proudly say that they are doing an amazing job and I am so happy and proud to have a young and brilliant team.
“Despite the short notice, the team was able to deliver, and they delivered beyond expectations.”
He added that the FMF Salon Culinaire 2022 gave young local chefs a fantastic stage to showcase their skills.
