Prime Minister orders appeal following High Court ruling

Listen to this article:

Prime Minister Sitiveni  Rabuka has directed that an appeal be lodged following today’s High Court ruling relating to the dismissal of the former Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

In a statement, the Prime Minister said the Government had noted the Court’s decision to grant leave for a judicial review challenging the validity of the Commission of Inquiry.

He said the Government would take the necessary steps to respond through the appropriate legal processes.

Mr Rabuka said he was encouraged that the proceedings reaffirmed the strength of democracy in Fiji, the respect for the separation of powers, and the absence of executive interference in the work of the Judiciary.

He added that the rule of law remains paramount and that the Government will continue to uphold constitutional processes while respecting the independence of Fiji’s institutions.
