Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fijians to strengthen peace, compassion and unity this Christmas, saying Fiji must continue to be an example of harmony in the region and the wider world.

“Fiji has long been admired for its harmony among diverse cultures, faiths and traditions,” Mr Rabuka said in his Christmas message.

“Let us safeguard this legacy and continue to be a voice for peace and cooperation in our Pacific region and the wider world.”

He encouraged families and communities to look out for one another, especially those in need.

“Let us be instruments of peace and kindness this Christmas,” he said.

“If a family member, neighbour or friend is in need, reach out and offer your support. Let us restore and strengthen the loving and caring spirit for which our people have long been known.”

Reflecting on global tensions, the Prime Minister said Fiji must remain guided by dialogue and respect.

“In a time when global tensions persist, Fiji must stand firm as a nation guided by dialogue, respect and goodwill,” he said.

Mr Rabuka also expressed optimism about the year ahead.

“I remain hopeful and confident that better opportunities and growth lie before us,” he said.

“With unity, hard work, faith and resilience, we can build a stronger economy, create meaningful opportunities for our young people, and ensure that progress is shared by all.”

He quoted from the Sermon on the Mount, saying the words still hold deep meaning.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God… Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled,” he said.

The Prime Minister concluded by extending festive greetings to families across the country and abroad.

“From my family to yours, I wish you all a blessed and joyful Christmas and a peaceful, healthy and prosperous New Year. May God bless you all — and may God bless Fiji.”
