PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has written to President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to inform him that he was the Coalition’s choice for President.

Ratu Wiliame, whose four-year term as President ends on October 21, is currently overseas for Fiji Day celebrations.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Mr Rabuka said upon his return he would then formally seek his approval.

“I am waiting for His Excellency to get back and I’ll get him to sign the approval. I have recommended it to him via letter.

“And I will give it to him when he gets back.”

A special Parliament sitting will be held on October 31 for the election of Fiji’s president by members of Parliament.

The Opposition is also expected to put forward their nomination for the role.

Meanwhile, nine of the independent MPs in the Opposition led by Ioane Naivalurua have stated they would support Mr Rabuka’s nomination.
