President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has authorised investigations in the Commission of Inquiry report.
This was done through a formal letter of referral sent by him to the Fiji Police Force yesterday afternoon.
“An investigation into the final report of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the appointment of the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has commenced,” said Commissioner of Police.
“A formal letter of referral was sent to the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, to investigate the Final Report of the Commission of Inquiry and persons of interests, and where warranted, prosecution.”
Mr Tudravu said this he met with the FICAC Acting Commissioner Ms Lavi Rokoika.
“In attendance were the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Crime Mesake Waqa and Director Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Loraini Seru.”
The discussion focussed on specific areas of investigation to be undertaken by “our respective institutions, to avoid duplication, and ensure efficiency of the investigation process.”
“I reiterate my assurance of the conduct of a thorough independent investigation by the team of senior investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).”
