“Your gold medal award reflects your resilience and dedication to make impactful changes to, foremost, yourself and your community at large.”

This was the message shared by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the launch of the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards ceremony at the State House last week.

Ratu Wiliame said it was a proud moment for the 10 recipients who were set to receive the award as it marked the accumulation of personal growth and community service.

“The May 2024 International Edinburgh Awards ceremony is also the first for the State House, and I am pleased that the acclaimed awards event is being held here.”

Ratu Wiliame said of the 10 recipients, two were sisters, and he gave thanks to the families and mentors of the recipients for their support and sacrifices.

“The Duke of Edinburgh International Awards ceremony has long been regarded as a hallmark in youth development,” he said.

Ratu Wiliame said the core principles of self-improvement, community engagement and exploration aligned perfectly with the Government’s vision of empowering young people to become active and responsible citizens.

The 10 recipients’ ages ranged from 16 to 23 and were from four youth groups in the Central Division.
