DAV Girls College Prefects – FIJI GOVT

MINISTER for Employment Agni Deo Singh has raised concern over the rise of drug abuse among young people.

Addressing students at the DAV Girls College in Suva during the prefects’ induction ceremony on Thursday, he said while many opportunities were opening up for youth, serious social challenges continued to threaten their future.

“One of the most concerning issues is the rise of drug abuse among youth,” Mr Singh said.

“Drugs destroy dreams, damage health, break families, and derail education and employment opportunities.

“Many talented young individuals lose their potential because of one harmful decision.”

He called on school prefects to take leadership in confronting the issue within their school community.

“You must lead by example by promoting healthy lifestyles, positive friendships, and strong values.

“Encourage your peers to stay focused on their education and personal growth.

“Speak up when you see someone heading in the wrong direction and guide them towards support and help.”

Mr Singh said education remained one of the strongest tools in addressing social problems.

“When students are engaged in learning, skill development, sports, cultural activities, and leadership opportunities, they are more likely to build bright and meaningful futures.

“Your role as prefects is to help create a school environment that motivates students to stay focused, disciplined and ambitious.”
