Opportunistic crimes remain the single biggest challenge for the Fiji Police Force, as home invasions and street muggings around the country become increasingly prevalent.
The rising incidences of crime, such as petty theft, burglary and robbery, have caused members of the community to become fearful and call for urgent police intervention.
Divisional police commander West senior superintendent of police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa called for greater collaboration with the community to identify these culprits.
In some break-ins, SSP Vaisewa said they noticed perpetrators were walking off with smaller items, including liquor.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant as opportunists were “out there within the community”.
