Roneel Prakash continued his impressive form on the local golf circuit after winning the professional division of the 27th Vonu Pro-Am Golf Tournament at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club yesterday.

Prakash carded two-under-par rounds on both days of the tournament to finish on four-under overall and secure another professional title in what has been a successful season for the experienced golfer.

The victory was especially meaningful for Prakash, who dedicated the win to his late father and his family for their continued support throughout his golfing journey.

Reflecting on his latest triumph, Prakash said he was pleased to return to winning form after recovering from an injury that affected his performance earlier this month.

“At the start of the year, we had a total of five Pro-Ams and I’ve won four of them,” he said.

“Unfortunately, due to injury, I was not able to play well in the biggest one two weeks ago. I did play, but the performance wasn’t as good as expected because of the injury. Now I feel better and I’m just happy.”

Prakash said maintaining focus and enjoying the game remained the key ingredients to success on the course.

“I think for everyone, you need to first of all have a lot of focus. You need to go out there and enjoy yourself,” he said.

“You can’t be tensed up hitting bad shots because it just makes matters worse. You set your targets and goals for every shot and try to achieve them. If you can’t, you just carry on, set new goals and keep playing for fun.”

The win adds to an already remarkable run of results for Prakash, who has established himself as one of Fiji’s leading professional golfers this season.

His attention now turns to the Sheraton Classic, next week.

“The next event for me will be the Sheraton Classic. It’s nothing out of the blue that I have to practise for,” he said.

“It’s just another event. I’ll go out there, enjoy the four days and meet new people along the way.”
