THE Fiji Powerlifting team is currently taking part in the 2024 Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships in Nauru, which began yesterday.

Lifters will be competing in the under 74kg, under 83kg (sub-junior), under 93kg, under 105kg and under 120kg categories.

As the national team prepares earnestly to lift with confidence and determination, the side has regarded itself as being well prepared in winning gold at the championship.

Fiji Powerlifting president, Viliame Lagonilakeba, says the squad is geared up to challenge the odds.

“Our athletes had an intense national competition in September and have since completed a six week program designed by Ryan Bale of Fiji Strength Systems,” Lagonilakeba mentioned.

“They have fully committed to balancing intense training with recovery and they are ready for the demands of the Oceania Championships.”

The organisation has expressed its appreciation to Government and the Fiji Sports Commission for stepping in and lending a helping hand to facilitate their trip to Nauru for the competition.

While the sport continues to build its prominence here in the country, the sporting body hopes to capitalise on the warm reception and traction it has garnered so far.

As the team participates in the arena of play, it has received support and encouragement from the Fijian community in Nauru and have expressed their gratitude for them as well.

Meanwhile, the national squad left Fiji on Wednesday this week.
